U.S. 59 Reopened in Sugar Land

(SUGAR LAND) – Following inspections by the City of Sugar Land Public Works Department, U.S. 59 through Sugar Land has been reopened in both directions. The city closed the freeway Monday due to dangerous, icy conditions.

City offices are closed until noon today due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions. Essential city services such as police, fire and public works will be provided without interruption.

“Hard freeze conditions continue this morning and another round is expected tonight, so continue to wrap your pipes, winterize irrigation systems, drain and wrap sprinkler backflow devices, locate main water shutoff valves and prepare to bring pets inside,” said city officials. “Follow authoritative sources of information like the National Weather Service and visit www.sugarlandtx.gov/extremecold for preparedness tips."
