Sugar Land Animal Services Partners with Petco Love

(SUGAR LAND) - Sugar Land Animal Services will use a $10,000 grant from Petco Love to help care for and save the city’s pet population.

The partnership with Petco Love provides funding to purchase supplies necessary to care for pets housed at the city’s shelter and support adoption activities necessary to find forever homes for dogs and cats.

“Our investment in Sugar Land Animal Services is part of more than $15 million in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet image technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

Sugar Land’s focus on partnerships, new programs and expanded engagement is intended to ensure the best outcomes for both the city and region’s continually growing pet population.

“We feel very fortunate as a community to have been awarded this grant by Petco Love,” said Sugar Land Animal Services Community Partnerships and Programs Manager Jillian Hinshaw. “This will help support our in-house heartworm treatment and provide the capability to expand microchipping of pets within the community.”

Sugar Land Animal Services expanded its purpose with the addition of the “Whiskerville” building in 2017, which coincided with the annexation of Greatwood and New Territory. In 2023, Sugar Land Animal Services has already successfully placed 118 animals into their forever homes, 42 into rescue programs and nine into other municipalities.

Petco Love is a nonprofit organization. Since its founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, the nonprofit has empowered animal welfare organizations by investing $350 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. The organization has helped find loving homes for more than 6.7 million pets in partnership with Petco and organizations nationwide.
