Richmond Police Issue Scam Alert

(RICHMOND) - Richmond police have issued a scam alert after receiving notice that an individual is using images and names of Richmond Police Department personnel from the internet and contacting people using the identity of their employees.

The caller is identifying themselves as a Richmond officer and telling individuals they will be arrested if they do not pay a certain amount of money for outstanding fines. Police want the public to be aware that these are not legitimate calls. Anyone who receives such a call is asked to notify the Richmond Police Department at 281-342-2849.

“Please be aware that these scams are common and often lead to the victim releasing money to an unknown source,” police said. “If you are unsure as to whether someone is trying to scam you, give us a call before you take any further action. We will never ask you for identifying information over the phone.”
