Closures Ahead for Hwy. 59 During Bridge at Oyster Creek Reconstruction Project

(SUGAR LAND) – The Texas Department of Transportation began a 13-month-long reconstruction project on the main lanes of the Hwy. 59 bridge at Oyster Creek on Jan. 6. TxDOT’s project will require lane closures to set up new traffic configurations as their project progresses.

TxDOT is closing the southbound lanes of 59 from January 13 starting at 9 p.m. until the night of January 14. All southbound lanes on 59 will close near the Oyster Creek bridge area with traffic exiting to the frontage road towards Hwy. 6, where you'll be allowed to get back on 59 before Hwy. 6.

TxDOT is closing the northbound lanes of 59 immediately after they open southbound lanes on January 14 and expect to reopen the northbound lanes on January 15. All northbound lanes will close near the Oyster Creek bridge area and traffic will exit to the frontage road towards Williams Trace Blvd. and be allowed to re-enter Hwy. 59 before Williams Trace Blvd.

Once the transition is complete there will be four main lanes in each direction over the Oyster Creek bridge, but there will not be HOV nor shoulder lanes over the Oyster Creek bridge during the duration of TxDOT's project.

The HOV and shoulder lanes from each direction will be “reallocated” to a construction area for bridge replacement work.

Traffic control personnel will be available to manage traffic during these closures. Residents are asked to be mindful of work crews during this time and avoid the area if possible.
