(FORT BEND ISD) - Class of 2024 Travis High School students Lance Lassiter and Samuel Klawitter represented Fort Bend ISD this summer at the American Legion Texas Boys State held at the University of Texas.

Texas Boys State provides attendees leadership experiences, including mock legislative and election experiences, and opportunities to hone their leadership skills and foster a deep understanding of civic responsibility.

Throughout the week, the boys campaigned for government positions. Lassiter was elected to the House of Representatives and Klawitter ran for several positions ranging from city party delegate to District Court Judge.

The boys will apply the skills they learned on their campus this school year.

Lassiter is the captain of the tennis team and a member of the student athlete leadership team. He is also a mentor for Ambush, an orientation held for freshmen.

Klawitter plays on the baseball team, is a leader on Ambush and is a member of the broadcasting team.

Both boys also attended the Josten Renaissance global conference summer which focuses on campus culture and climate.

American Legion Boys State is among the most selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his local, county and state government.
