Sugar Land Police Looking for Gunman Following Attempted Robbery

(SUGAR LAND) - Sugar Land Police Department detectives are looking for a gunman who attempted to steal money from a clerk at WB Food Mart, 1303 block of West Bellfort Blvd., on Sunday Just after noon.

The man entered the store, displayed a handgun and discharged a round into the ceiling, approached the checkout window, pointed his handgun at the clerk and demanded cash. The clerk grabbed a gun, and the suspect fired several shots in the employee’s direction, so the clerk returned fire in self-defense. The suspect fired a final round toward the clerk before running away.

No one was believed to be injured, largely due to a bullet-proof enclosure surrounding the register where the clerk was working. Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the gunman. Surveillance footage from the store confirmed the suspect was a black man in his 20s wearing black pants, a black hoodie, a white T-shirt and a black face covering. Anyone with information about the case should contact Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS.
