Man Arrested After Stealing Truck Near Rosenberg Park

(ROSENBERG) - A 27-year-old man has been arrested after approaching people at a Rosenberg park while allegedly intoxicated then stealing a truck from a nearby church.

Brandon Villarreal

On Saturday, June 10, at about 1 p.m., Rosenberg police responded to a call about a suspicious man at Travis Park, 3004 Avenue N. The man, later identified as Brandon Villarreal, was reportedly approaching people that were near the Splash Pad area of the park and appeared to be intoxicated. While Rosenberg police officers were responding to the park, Villarreal walked to a nearby church, where he approached a woman and requested a ride, but was refused. Police say he then entered the woman’s unoccupied truck and drove away without her consent.

While searching the area, police found Villarreal, who was now on foot, near the 1200 block of Damon Street. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend him. At the time of arrest, Villareal appeared to have been under the influence of an intoxicating substance, police said.

The stolen truck was recovered and returned to the owner. Villarreal was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (State Jail Felony) and Evading Arrest or Detention with Previous Conviction (State Jail Felony).

Anyone with any information related to a crime that occurred at Travis Park by Villarreal is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 832-595-3720. Rosenberg Police Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from Travis Park on the day of the incident to ensure all appropriate charges are filed.
