(FORT BEND ISD) - The Lakeview Elementary Parent Teacher Association has been awarded a National PTA grant for the third year in a row.
This year’s $1,250 grant is for Lakeview’s Healthy Minds Program, sponsored by The Allstate Foundation.
The Healthy Minds Program provides children’s mental health and resiliency resources for parents and caregivers. Lakeview PTA member Vanessa Gaona who is the Healthy Minds Program Committee Leader and PTA member Jennifer Khorchani were fundamental to the successful grant application process.
“Last year, the grant we received was $2,500,” Gaona said. “During the 2021-2022 school year, Lakeview PTA participated in the Healthy Minds pilot program and received a grant for $1,000.”
The funds have been used for learning sessions which included dinner and childcare, virtual learning sessions with mental health professionals, and a Family Game Night that provided mental health resources, games, activities, prizes, a food truck, Kona Ice, and dinner for the first 100 registrants.
The Lakeview PTA plans to incorporate more Healthy Minds activities during family nights and other events this year.
