Fueling Brains Academy for Preschoolers Celebrates Grand Opening

(FORT BEND ISD) – Fueling Brains Academy for preschoolers recently celebrated its grand opening in Fort Bend ISD at the Edison Lofts apartments in the Willowridge feeder pattern.

The academy specializes in using right brain-left brain research and data to develop the cognitive and executive functioning skills of young children, particularly those in lower socio-economic income families.

Executive functioning skills involve the ability to absorb and retain knowledge, memory skills and being able to control impulses and other behaviors.

“Some children have a working memory function that is at an 80 percent or 90 percent deficit. When a child can’t think, no matter how much information you put in front of them, they will not understand it,” Fueling Brains Co-Founder Dr. Anil Karim said.

The academy also teaches children how to collaborate, persevere and think independently.

The partnership the program has with Fort Bend ISD is for three-year-old students. It is located at a newly-constructed Fueling Brains childcare facility at Edison Lofts apartments on W. Fuqua near Blueridge Road.

“I think it’s amazing and it is something that young brains need because brains can grow,” FBISD Superintendent Dr. Christie Whitbeck said at the grand opening, which included refreshments, activities for children, a petting zoo and performances by the Willowridge High School drumline and cheerleaders.

“Young minds can be developed and that is what this is all about,” Whitbeck said. “This partnership helps kids be more school-ready. It frees up their thinking and allows them to succeed in the long-term.”

The Fueling Brains Academy partnership with FBISD is unique in that it offers childcare and a school district partnership in a standalone facility, making it the first of its kind in the area.

The academy is open to any Fort Bend ISD resident. Parents may pay for the childcare branch of the program and receive the academic program at no additional cost. Parents can also apply for state subsidies, which may lower the monthly cost to as little as $20.

Fueling Brains Academy is an international organization with about 20 schools managed by the organization itself and about 70 school partnerships across the state.
