(FORT BEND ISD - Fort Bend ISD has launched a survey to gain community feedback on three calendar options for the 2023-24 school year. The survey is now open and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, and the results of the survey will be shared with the district’s calendar committee before a final recommendation is presented to the Board of Trustees for adoption in February.
Similarities in Calendar Options:
All calendar options include a traditional holiday schedule - a full week off for Thanksgiving, two full weeks for the Winter Break and a week-long Spring Break. Professional learning is also embedded within each calendar option along with the state-required 75,600 operational minutes and at least 840 minutes designated for inclement weather days or other issues of health and safety. Each calendar also begins the school year before the fourth Monday of August and ends before Memorial Day.
Differences in Calendar Options:
Options A and B offer dedicated teacher planning days prior to each grading period. These teacher planning days allow time for teachers to do the important work of teaching, time to design learning experiences, review student progress, and prepare materials.
Option B adds an additional ten instructional minutes to the school day. The additional 10 minutes provide the increase needed to allow for two additional teacher workdays and early release time. The extra minutes also allow teachers to have a holiday on April 15, provided they have fulfilled their required professional learning. Adjusted Bell Schedule (if Option B is approved by the Board of Trustees) PLEASE NOTE: Length of Teacher Contract Hours Will Not Change • High School starts at 7:20 a.m. and end at 2:45 p.m. * High School Teacher Contract Hours are 7:10 a.m. – 3:10 p.m. • Elementary starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. * Elementary Teacher Contract Hours are 7:50 a.m. – 3:50 p.m. with duty at 7:30 a.m. • Middle School start at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 4:05 p.m. * Middle School Teacher Contract Hours are 8:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Option C represents a traditional school calendar and does not include additional Teacher Planning days.
