Fort Bend ISD Announces Upcoming Fine Arts Events Showcasing Student Performances

(FORT BEND ISD) – Fort Bend ISD’s Fine Arts Department has announced upcoming student performances that are free and open to the community.

Dance Classic


Students from all eleven FBISD high schools and six middle schools will showcase their dance skills at the district’s annual Dance Classic on Thursday, Jan. 26. Two events will take place simultaneously at Wheeler Field House, 16403 Lexington Blvd. in Sugar Land, and Hopson Field House, 3335 Hurricane Ln. in Missouri City, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.


Clements, Elkins, Hightower, Marshall, Ridge Point and Willowridge high schools and First Colony, Lake Olympia, McAuliffe and Thornton middle schools will perform at Hopson. Austin, Bush, Dulles, Kempner and Travis high schools and Sartartia and Garcia middle schools will perform at Wheeler.


Performances will receive feedback from professional adjudicators to prepare dancers for the upcoming competition season.


Elementary Honor Choir performance


The Elementary Honor Choir will perform a collection of folk music from around the world on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Kempner High School, 14777 Voss Road in Sugar Land, at 3 p.m.

Fort Bend ISD’s Elementary Honor Choir is comprised of 180 fifth grade students from each elementary school in the district. Students audition to participate. They will perform the same collection of music at the Texas Music Educators Association conference in February in San Antonio.


String Fling


The annual String Fling will showcase more than 500 beginning middle school orchestra students on Feb. 1 and 2 at Hopson Field House at 7 p.m.


The Feb. 1 event will feature students from Baines, Bowie, Garcia, McAuliffe, Quail Valley, Sartartia and Thornton middle schools. The Feb. 2 event will highlight students who attend Crockett, Dulles, First Colony, Fort Settlement, Hodges Bend, Lake Olympia, Missouri City and Sugar Land middle schools.


This year’s event will feature Houston Symphony guest performers Boson Mo on violin and David Connor on double bass.


Color Guard Preview


High school color guard organizations will participate in the district’s annual Color Guard Preview on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Hopson Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. The event will showcase exhibition performances by Austin, Bush, Clements, Elkins, Hightower, Kempner, Marshall, Ridge Point, Travis and Willowridge high schools.
