FBISD Music Ensembles to Perform at State and National Conferences

(FORT BEND ISD) - Four Fort Bend ISD fine arts music groups have been selected to perform at state and national music education conferences.

The Sartartia Middle School Honors Orchestra, under the direction of Heather Davis and Guillermo Teniente, was named the 2024 Texas Music Education Association Middle School Honor String Orchestra. Honor Orchestra is the highest recognition a Texas school music program can receive. The Sartartia orchestra will perform a 45-minute concert at the 2024 TMEA convention, which will run Feb. 7-10 in San Antonio, Texas.

The First Colony Middle School Select Treble Choir, led by Tommie Trinh and Joshua Sarmiento, earned an invitation to perform at the 2024 TMEA convention as well, the highest achievement a middle school choir program can earn. The FCMS choir is FBISD’s first middle school choral group to earn an invitation to sing at TMEA.

The Neill Elementary School Rockin’ Longhorns percussion ensemble, under the direction of Staci Waites, earned their second invitation to perform in the Elementary Division at the 2024 TMEA Convention. The Rockin’ Longhorns also performed at the 2019 TMEA Convention, marking the first time a campus-based elementary music group from FBISD was chosen for this honor.

The Fort Settlement Middle School Varsity Treble Choir, under the direction of Kirsten Jordon, has earned an invitation to perform at the 2024 Southwestern Division of the American Choral Directors Association conference in Denver, Colorado, which will take place February 27 – March 2. Their appearance will mark the third time an FBISD choir has been invited to perform at an ACDA conference.
