(FORT BEND ISD) – The nonprofit Children at Risk has ranked Fort Bend ISD’s Commonwealth Elementary School the No. 1 school in Texas and the region for the 2022-2023 academic school year.
The organization’s No. 1 middle school is William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted, and the No. 1 high school is School for the Gifted and Talented - both in Dallas ISD.
Children at Risk President and CEO Dr. Robert Sanborn announced the results of the top five high, middle and elementary schools in the Greater Houston Area during a recent news conference.
“Every year for the last 19 years, we do school rankings all over the state of Texas,” he said. “We look at data for every single public school in the state of Texas and look at who is doing well.”
Children at Risk evaluated 1,311 public schools in the Greater Houston Area based on student achievement, school performance and student growth for middle and elementary schools – with the addition of college readiness for high schools. Its school ranking system helps parents, educators, and community members better understand how their local schools are performing.
Commonwealth Elementary School ranked No. 2 in last year’s rankings.
Principal Dr. Latecha Bogle credits her team of educators for the school’s continued success.
"It is truly an honor to work alongside such a hard-working, dedicated team of educators committed to making a difference in the lives of children each and every day,” Bogle said. “In partnership with our parents and community members, I have full confidence that our faculty and staff will continue to meet the needs of our students as we strive toward excellence."
